(UNDATED) - Leaves are turning to autumn’s red and gold throughout Indiana and tourist are descending upon Brown County to view the colorful leaves.
Jane Ellis of the Brown County Visitors Bureau said that Brown County and it's communities draw about 2 million "leaf peepers" each year.
But residents from Loogootee to Shoals believe the forested hills and valleys of Martin County have just as much scenic beauty to offer as Brown County.
Jason Jones, with Martin County's Tourism Council, told the Loogootee Tribune that the only thing that Brown County has that is better than Martin County is marketing.
So, if you want to avoid the crush and bumper-to-bumper traffic lines in Brown County take a drive through the rural roads and highways of Martin Count and along the way, you can visit the "lost" settlement of Hindostan, or maybe you can discover gangster John Dilinger's Martin County hideout
Who knows, you might even find the fabled lost Indian treasure rumored to be hidden in Martin County's hills.
