Last updated on Friday, October 18, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police were called to the 1300 block of West 13th Street Tuesday night after a report of an intoxicated man with three children was attempting to find a ride.

According to Sgt. Cody Forston, when officers arrived the man was pulling at his children and yelling "run, it's the police."

The man then let go of his children and ran from police who caught him in the 1200 block of West 13th Street.

32-year-old Jason Lee Blackwell, of 3970 North Feerwood Court, was arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement, public intoxication and neglect of a dependent.

Because Blackwell was intoxicated he was first taken to the hospital for an evaluation before he was taken to jail.

Officials from the department of Child Services were alerted and the children were released to other family members.
