Fort Vallonia Days Today And Sunday

Last updated on Saturday, October 19, 2013

(VALLONIA) - Few festivals have stood the test of time as well as the one conducted this weekend of October each year in the oldest community in Jackson County.

Fort Vallonia Days has been in place so long that most of the people of the community know what they have to do to make the festival successful.

"Everyone just pitches in and does what they are supposed to do like they always have," Ann Cooper said. Cooper is the publicity and parade chairwoman for the 45th annual festival, which will be staged Saturday and Sunday.

This festival celebrates Vallonia's heritage with Indian lodges, muzzleloader shoots, pioneer crafts, parade, food, museum visits and vendors.

See a re-creation of Vallonia's first fort, built by early settlers in Jackson County. See a tomahawk throw, early era crafters and the gorgeous Indian lodges that dot the property. Lots of delicious food and shopping opportunities greet visitors.

Make sure to watch the awesome parade on Saturday.
