"Evening At The Shelter" - Fund Raiser For Becky's Place Oct. 18

Last updated on Saturday, October 12, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The owners of Limestone Cafe and Oliver Winery are putting their talents together to help Becky’s Place, a homeless shelter for women and children.

The event " Evening at the Shelter" is Friday, Oct. 18, at the Otis Park shelter house on top of the hill.

Barry Key, co-owner of Limestone Cafe says his establishment will be preparing appetizers with a French theme.

Key, who owns the downtown cafe with Brandon Hill and Erick Amick, are donating all of the food for the event and Oliver Winery is donating six cases of wine.

Corrina Hayes, program director of Becky's Place, will speak at the event to share stories from Becky's Place residents along with Sister Becky Ryan.

Becky's Place works with residents to help them find employment, housing and learn life skills, but it does not have the money to help all the women with things they may need.

She added the shelter recently started inviting community members to sponsor a resident entering the job market. A person who becomes a sponsor can help by taking a resident shopping for proper work attire, purchasing a bus pass or helping write a resumé.

Hayes says the fundraiser will be of great help to the woman and children who stay at the shelter.

Tickets for the event are $20 and on sale at Limestone Café, Bedford Federal Savings Bank, the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce and the St. Vincent de Paul Church office.

The ticket price includes appetizers, beer and wine. The event is from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.

Guests will park at the clubhouse parking lot and a shuttle service will take them to the shelter house.

In addition, there will be silent auction items and a live auction. Items up for bid include a wine-pairing, seven-course dinner for 10 by Limestone Café, valued at $600, and a custom-painted table by Debbie Patton of Debonair Designs.

Other event sponsors are Bedford Federal Savings Bank, Cosner's Ice, Salt Creek Brewery, Judge Michael Robbins, Mayor Shawna Girgis and Paul and Patty Ford.

If you would like to volunteer at Becky's Place a volunteer training session will be held on Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. The training takes about one hour. To register, call 275-5773.
