(NASHVILLE) - The Brown County Humane Society has received a $12,000 grant from The Humane Society of the United States to address pet overpopulation in surrounding counties. It will initially focus on Jackson County.
The Serving Pets Outreach Team provides financial assistance for spaying and neutering, feral cat management and pet training, among other services in Brown County. The SPOT program has paid for 3,000 surgeries since its launch in 2010.
The expanded program will transport dogs to the Bloomington Pets Alive facility to be spayed or neutered.
"The Brown County Humane Society and its very dedicated staff have done an incredible job in greatly reducing pet overpopulation and improving the lives of animals in their community," said Erin Huang, state director for the U.S. humane society.
