(WORTHINGtON) - An Investigations into sales of heroin and morphine in Worthington, led to the arrest of two suspects.
The Greene County Daily World reports that 43-year-old Jeremy R. Harl and 39-year-old Mary V. Anderson, both of Bloomfield, were arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Richard Klun late Thursday afternoon and booked into the Greene County Jail.
Charges against the pair stemmed from alleged drug deals that took place late in September.
On Wednesday, the Greene County Prosecutor's Office filed criminal cases against them in Greene Circuit Court and warrants were issued for their arrest.
Early Friday, they both appeared in court for initial hearings.
Harl has been charged with four counts of dealing in a Schedule I, II or III controlled substance, all as class B felonies. In addition, when he was arrested, he was booked in on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance, both class D felonies.
Anderson has been charged with two counts of dealing in a Schedule I, II or III controlled substance, both as class B felonies. In addition, when she was arrested, she was booked in on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance, both class D felonies.
The controlled substances Harl was allegedly dealing were both heroin and morphine. In Anderson's case, the controlled substances were morphine.
Worthington Town Marshal Randy Raney, a member of the Greene County Drug Task Force, was assisted in the investigations and apprehension of the two by other members of the Drug Task Force team, and personnel from the Indiana State Police, Jasonville Police Department and Worthington Police Department.
The two were under surveillance when the alleged transactions involving drugs took place.
In affidavits to establish probable cause for the warrants, written by Raney, he detailed audio and physical evidence collected including a number of morphine sulfate pills and a tan powder substance that the ISP lab certified as testing positive for heroin in a total amount of 2.86 grams.
Police say Harl and Anderson were involved in two transactions involving morphine pills on Sept. 25 at the residence of Harl's mother's in Worthington; that Anderson was involved in another transaction for morphine at a different, but undisclosed, residence in Worthington on Sept. 26; and that Harl was involved in selling heroin (purchased in Indianapolis) in two transactions, one on Sept. 26 and one on Sept. 27 in Worthington.
When Anderson appeared in court on Friday on two drug counts, her bond was set at $30,000 cash or surety with ten percent allowed. In addition, she's being held on bond for the preliminary charge of maintaining a common nuisance -- $4,000 with ten percent allowed, but there is no bond on the preliminary charge of possession of a controlled substance until she appears in court for an initial hearing on that charge.
When Harl appeared in court on Friday on four drug counts, his bond was set at $60,000 cash or surety with ten percent allowed. In addition, same as Anderson, he's being held on a bond for a preliminary charge of maintaining a common nuisance -- $4,000 with ten percent allowed, with no bond on the preliminary possession of a controlled substance until he appears in court.
There's more on the way -- in another case, investigations led by the Worthington Police Department resulted in a warrant issued this week for the arrest of another individual, a Worthington resident suspected of dealing a controlled substance, but as of late Friday, the suspect was not yet in custody.
