Bedford Man Arrested After Towing Boat Without A Trailer

Last updated on Friday, October 4, 2013

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after police found him towing a boat without a trailer Thursday afternoon.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley the incident was reported around 4:39 p.m. in the area of 8th and J streets.

"It was not something you see everyday," Parsley says. "He was towing a boat behind his truck without a trailer. He was pulling it with a chain."

Officers went to the area after they received several calls about the incident.

"An officer who was about a block away saw him towing the boat and when he got to the man he was on I Street and was at the side of the road and unhooking the boat," Parsley says. "He was just going to leave it there."

Parsley says 49-year-old Michael Jarvis, of 1616 H St., was towing the boat to the recycling center.

"But they wouldn't take it," Parsley says.

Parsley says while officers were talking to Jarvis they discovered he had been drinking.

"He failed several field sobriety tests and was taken to the station where he tested intoxicated," Parsley added. "And he was arrested."

Jarvis was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .15 or greater, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment and illegal dumping. He was also cited for towing a vehicle with a chain.
