Springville Man Arrested On Warrants

(SPRINGVILLE) - A Springville man was arrested after an incident where a Lawrence County Police officer was injured.

20-year-old Andrew Kelley was arrested Thursday night after police served an arrest warrant on Kelley associated with the Drug Task Force investigation are dealing a Schedule II controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, a Class A felony; dealing a Schedule I controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, a Class A felony; two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony; and two counts of maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony.

He was also arrested on a warrant associated with the Sept. 8 investigation on charges of resisting law enforcement, a Class D felony; battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class D felony; and misdemeanor battery.

The officer was injured after police received a call at 1:20 a.m. from a woman reporting her son was "threatening to kill the whole family." The woman wouldn't give her name and hung up the phone. Police went to the home in the 6000 block of State Road 54 West.

Sheriff Sam Craig say Kelley was out of control and an officer had to use a Taser to bring Kelley under control. He was taken to Bloomington for medical attention unrelated to the use of the Taser.

"He was taken to the hospital because he was severely impaired," Chief Deputy Mike Branham.

Warrants were issued for Kelley's arrest. After he left the hospital, police arrested Kelley without incident.

Kelley remains in jail. In the drug case, he is being held on a $200,000 surety bond or $20,000 cash bond. In other case, his bond is $7,500 surety or $755 cash.
