Last updated on Tuesday, September 10, 2013

(SALEM) - An arrest was made in the death investigation of eight-month-old Leelan Crain.

Indiana State Police arrested 24-year-old Jamie Lykins, of Salem. Lykins was the live-in boyfriend of the deceased infant's mother.

According to ISP Sgt. Jerry Goodin, Lykins was arrested after police gathered enough evidence from interviews with Lykins and the results of Crain's autopsy.

Lykins was arrested without incident at a convenience store on State Road 56 in Salem and taken to the Washington County Jail on a charge of neglect of a dependant and battery causing death.

This investigation is continuing.

Goodin says the baby was found unresponsive by his mother while he was taking a nap at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Leelan's mother and her boyfriend took the baby to the St. Vincent's Hospital in Salem by personal vehicle. Once at the hospital, Leelan was transported to the Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, by air ambulance. He was pronounced dead at approximately 1:41 a.m. Sunday.

An autopsy was performed Sunday Morning at the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville. The autopsy preliminarily determined the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

Assisting in the investigation was the Salem City Police Department.

Funeral services for Leelan, who was born Dec. 8, 2012, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to the time of service.
