Last updated on Friday, September 20, 2013

(MITCHELL) - The Art Show Committee is ready to receive enteries for the Persimmon Festival Art Show.

This year's show will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 23, 24 and 26; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 28 in the lower level of the Mitchell Community Public Library. The library is at the corner of Eighth and Main streets in downtown Mitchell.

Those wishing to enter the contest may bring works to the library between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sept. 21.

Entrants must be a current or former resident of Indiana and be of post high school age. Artists are allowed three entries total (space permitting) and if the artwork is quite large, only one entry may be accepted. Artwork must be securely framed with a strong wire for hanging (no saw-toothed hangers); and must be original, two dimensional in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels, pencil, etc. No crafts or artwork previously shown at the Persimmon Festival Art Show will be accepted.

Artwork must be suitable for viewing by all ages. No artwork containing nudity, or any indecent, obscene or offensive material -- as determined by the Persimmon Festival Committee in its sole discretion -- may be entered or displayed.

There will be judged and non-judged divisions. Those entering the judged division will be charged a $5 entry fee for each piece of artwork. Ribbons and prize money (based entry fees and donations) will be awarded in five categories: landscape and waterscape; still life and florals; portrait and people; animals and birds; and abstract/non-objective/fantasy. There will also be a best of show.

Those entering the non-judge division will not be charged an entry fee.

All entries, both judged and non-judged, will be eligible for the People's Choice Award as voted on by those visiting the show.

Following the show, artwork can be picked up between 4-6 p.m., on Sept. 30. Library staff is not authorized to release artwork.
