(WORTHINGTON) - The Worthington Town Council took a big step to solve problems with nuisance dogs.

The council has had complaints for month of pet owners allowing their dogs to run loose, causing traffic and pedestrian problems.

Worthington Police officers have talked to dog owners, but the issues are still on-going.

The new law, passed by the council, state that any dog within the city limits is deemed to be a public nuisance if it interferes with a passing vehicle and disrupts traffic; or attacks or injures other animals or persons; or damages private or public property.

The penalty for the violation is a $50 fine and fines will be due within 30 days, payable to the town clerk-treasurers' office.
