Owensburg Founder's Day Fall Celebration Kicks Off Today

(OWENSBURG) - The 39th annual Owensburg Founder's Day Fall Celebration will feature live entertainment, a flea market and an opportunity for fellowship.

The Greene County Daily World reports, Anne Hirth, who serves as one of the festival organizers explained the annual event serves as the sole fundraiser for the Emanual Hatfield Museum and Library located in downtown Owensburg.

The weekend's events will kick off Friday at 5:30 p.m. when the when the Boy Scout Troop No. 173 serves dinner at the Emanual Hatfield Museum and Library.

Festivities will begin on Saturday at 7 a.m. at the Owensburg Jackson Township Fire Department for a biscuits and gravy breakfast.

Live music will start at noon, and feature Best Durn Ride (bluegrass) from noon to 2 p.m.; the McDonald Brothers from 2:30 to 4 p.m.; Elwren Guys and Gals from 4 to 5:30 p.m.; and Night Riders from 6 to 8 p.m.

Hirth said the parade will begin at 2 p.m.

From noon to 8 p.m. organizers will be set up at the Cobblers bench, selling cobbler and ice cream. Following the pie contest at 3 p.m., Hirth noted participants will also be bringing pies to sell at the Cobblers bench.

A quilt made by Alice Mitchell will be raffled off at 5 p.m.

There will be several vendors set up for the event, and Hirth noted a couple new items have been added.

The fire department will have a booth set up, and anyone who has proof of residence they live in Jackson Township will be eligible for a free smoke detector. They will also be selling them to those who do not live in Jackson Township.

Also, Hirth added CB Hatfields, a new grocery store in the old Lehman's Store, will be open.

She stressed the Emanual Hatfield Library and Museum will be open for patrons to visit. There are items on display about the Hatfields and Owensburg.

There are also items for sale, including t-shirts, photos and books.

Hirth said while the event serves mainly as a fundraiser, it also doubles as a homecoming event for those who have been away from Owensburg.
