Mitchell Residents Upset With Ditches Along Sidewalks

Last updated on Wednesday, September 11, 2013

(MITCHELL) - Three Mitchell residents were upset about the ditches created with the construction of new sidewalks on the western portion of Hancock Avenue.

The Times-Mail reports they voiced those concerns during the Mitchell City Council meeting Monday night.

The problem is that the ditches are too severe making it hard for residents to mow their yards.

The sidewalk project is being funded by Safe Routes to School grant and local matching funds.

Mayor Gary Pruett has addressed the issue with both the project engineer and manager. The deep ditches runs along Hancock Avenue, stretching 508 feet from the city pool to 14th Street.

Mayor Pruett advised those that attended the city council meeting that the problem will be resolved and the fix would not include filling the ditches with rocks.
