Last updated on Monday, September 16, 2013

(BARTLETTSVILLE) - Police are still investigating the one-car crash that killed a man early Saturday morning. After impact, the car caught on fire.

Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says because of the fire the person is being identified at this time and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

"The coroner is working on the case and we don't know for sure how long it will be before he is able to identify the individual," Craig says.

The wreck in the 500 block of Elkins Road, about a mile west of Bartlettsville, was reported at 12:53 a.m. Saturday.
Craig says the man was driving a 2006 Pontiac Sedan west on Elkins Road when it left the roadway, hit a tree stump, rolled and caught on fire.

An Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital ambulance, Pleasant Run Township Volunteer Fire Department, Lawrence County Police Department and Bedford Fire Department were called to the scene. Lawrence County Coroner Rob Herr was also alerted.
