(LOOGOOTEE) - The Loogootee School Board says Superintendent Larry Weitkamp has left his position with the school.

The Washington Times-Herald reports, in a statement, board President Scott Hall says Weitkamp requested to take his earned vacation days "to explore the future."

Loogootee Elementary Principal Laura Mattingly will take over as interim superintendent and Mike Tippery will serve as manager of business operations.

Hall says Weitkamp "worked tirelessly with the administration to help with upcoming budget deadlines and union negotiations.

No reason was given as to the departure and attempts to reach Weitkamp were unsuccessful.

According to the school's website, an executive session is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday to discuss personnel matters.
