Marshall VFD Puts New Rescue Truck In Service

(JUDAH) - The Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department received a new rescue truck in late June and placed it into service on Aug. 1.

The total cost of the vehicle and equipment was about $180,000. The amount was paid using tax dollars from the township's cumulative fund, which are set aside for that purpose. The new vehicle a 2013 Ford F-550 with a 6.7 twin-turbo diesel with a custom rescue/combo bed will be the first vehicle to respond to all medical calls, search and rescue incidents and accidents.

The new vehicle replaces a 1990 Chevrolet K3500 Knaphiede utility bed.

The truck has an inside-the-cab medical equipment storage compartment and a full set of extrication tools that are pre-connected by a hose reel. The extrication gear includes a spreader, cutter, rams, struts, airbags, cribbing and hooks and chains. The extrication equipment is mounted onto a sliding tray in the front transverse compartment to allow the tools to be accessed from either side.

The truck also carries a rescue stretcher and backboard, wildland fire tools, a full complement of hand tools in a mounted tool cabinet, air packs, gas analyzer, an electric hotstick, oil dry, a chainsaw, a dash camera, a cab-mounted laptop computer with electronic mapping system, a broom and scoop shovel.

The truck came equipped with a PTO driven hydraulic generator to provide 110-volt or 220-volt electricity that may be needed on scene, a light tower, two telescoping LED scene lights, an LED driver door spotlight, a bumper-mounted Warn winch, a 300-gallon water tank, a 25-gallon foam tank with fast foam system and a diesel Darley water pump.

The truck sports a booster line mounted above the tank, and 150 feet of 1.75-inch hose in an under-the-bed sliding compartment.
