Last updated on Wednesday, September 18, 2013

(OWEN CO.) - A Jasonville man was arrested on felony charges after a fatal wreck in Owen County Sunday.

22-year-old Cory Deschamp was arrested on charges of causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and causing serious bodily injury when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Owen County dispatch received a call Sunday at 6:15 a.m. reporting a two-vehicle accident one mile south of Spencer on U.S. 231 South. Upon arriving officers found 37-year-old Keith Fennel and his wife 41-year-old Jennifer trapped in a Plymouth Van.

Jennifer was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Keith died at the scene.

Police say Deschamp who was driving a pickup truck may have fallen asleep or passed out at the wheel, crossing the center line and crashing head-on into a van. Deschamp was not injured, but was taken to Bloomington Hospital for a blood draw where it was determined he was intoxicated.

The highway was closed for more than three hours so an Indiana State Police expert could reconstruct the accident.
