(JASONVILLE) - Indiana Rail Road Company (INRD) invites the public to tour its state-of-the-art $7.6 million Locomotive Maintenance Facility (LMF) near Jasonville Friday.

The open house will be from 2-4 p.m.

The open house will take place after an invitation-only ribbon-cutting ceremony for INRD officials and local and state VIPs, including Congressman Larry Bucshon, who will officially open the LMF and a new era of operating efficiency and environmental stewardship for the railroad.

According to Eric Powell, an INRD spokesman, The facility replaces a cramped, 100-year-old engine house and is equipped with state-of-the-art environmental controls, and climate-controlled working environment for INRD's mechanical team, and an on-site parts warehouse.

The LMF is located at Hiawatha Yard, the operational hub of the INRD system located 70 miles southwest of Indianapolis and 25 miles southeast of Terre Haute.

Hiawatha and the LMF together are home to more than 85 employees.

The railroad's $7.6 million investment represents one of the largest private infrastructure investments in Greene County history. All told, INRD has invested more than $160 million in private capital into its infrastructure since the company was founded in 1986.

In addition to tours, refreshments will be available for the public. Guests should follow signs to designated parking.

The Indiana Rail Road Company is a privately-held, 500-mile railroad based in Indianapolis with a full-time staff of 185. The company hauls the equivalent of more than 800,000 truckloads of consumer, industrial and energy products each year.
