Greene Co. Residents Can Get Rid Of Old Tires For Free

Last updated on Friday, September 13, 2013

(BLOOMFIELD) - Greene County residents can get rid of their old tires.

Greene County Soil and Waste Management District Director Erek Wilson says the recycling center will hold a tire amnesty week.

From Sept. 21 to 28 Greene County residents can bring up to four tires per person to be recycled for free.

The event is funded by a grant from the Indiana Department of Health's West Nile Virus Awareness program, because tires are a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

On top of keeping mosquitoes at bay, Wilson says the project gives an opportunity for residents to get rid of their junk laying around.

Residents who have more than the four tires can call the recycle center to make arrangements because if not many tires are turned in, Wilson says the facility may increase the number of tires a resident can bring in. The fees for tires off the rim are $2 and on the rim $4.

For information on the event or other items to be recycled contact the recycling center at (812) 659-3788.
