Man's Arrested After Couple Seen Together While Protective Order In Place

(LINTON) - A Linton couple were riding together in a car Tuesday evening despite the fact that court records showed there was a valid protective order involving the two in place.

An Indiana State trooper stopped the vehicle there were in for a traffic violation and despite their pleas - the man in the vehicle went to jail.

30-year-old Jason Mitchell, of Linton, was arrested for violating a protective order. He was taken to the Greene County Jail and is being held on a $5,000 bond with 10 percent allowed.

Anna Rochelle, of the Greene County Daily World reports, ISP Trooper Richard Klun was on patrol Tuesday around 8:43 p.m., near State Roads 45 and 445, when he stopped a vehicle with a defective driver's side headlight.

When he ran a check on the driver, Dena Robertson, he learned she had a valid and active protective order against Mitchell, the passenger.

Trooper Klun reported Mitchell indicated he was aware there used to be a protective order but he denied knowing that it was still active.

Mitchell was arrested.

Robertson got a warning for the headlight and an explanation about what was happening to Mitchell. She told the trooper she was was aware of the protective order and that they had not gone to the court to have it dismissed.

The protective order prohibiting Mitchell from having any contact with Robertson was issued by Monroe County Circuit Court on May 2, 2013.

On Thursday afternoon, Mitchell appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing and was charged with invasion of privacy, a class A misdemeanor.
