Charlene Spierer Posts Another Plea On Facebook

Last updated on Friday, September 6, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - The mother of a missing Indiana University student posted another plea to those behind her disappearance Tuesday.

The seven-paragraph message was posted to the Facebook page that has been set up for the family to convey their messages to the public. Charlene Spierer has periodically posted pleas for information to the page since her daughter Lauren was last seen near her apartment near the IU campus in June 2011.

As has been in the case with several recent postings, Spierer directly addressed the people responsible for her daughter's disappearance, pleading with them to come forward with information.

Message from Charlene Spierer:

To Whom This May Concern:

You know the answers to our questions. You are responsible for the tragedy surrounding Lauren's disappearance. What can be said that hasn't already been said? At times I think if I could make you feel some compassion, maybe, just maybe, you would send Lauren's location to the PO Box. The reality is I can make you feel nothing. I'm not sure what you are waiting to hear. I know what our lives have been like since June 3, 2011.

We have tried and tried to get answers. There have been awareness events, concerts, interviews. We have handed out fliers, distributed thousands of bracelets, searched and searched with the help of hundreds of volunteers, throughout Bloomington and surrounding areas, without success. We have received and followed countless leads all of which have lead disappointingly nowhere. What did you do as we waited, only to receive the crushing news that a lead had come up short? Has it given you pleasure or have you been relieved? Have we come close or are we still far from the truth?

We have had the help and prayers of people we know and people we never met. For that help and support we are eternally grateful. People have said over and over that Lauren could have been their daughter, friend, sister, loved one. What happened to Lauren could have happened to your best friend. For that matter, what happened to Lauren could have happened to you.

People ask me how I spend my days. They could just as easily ask how I spend my nights. The sleepless nights, spent going over every detail I know about Lauren's final night. The hours I spend imagining what might have happened to my daughter. I tell you now, I spend my time searching and I will NEVER stop until I have answers. Over two years since I last saw Lauren or heard her voice. How is that possible? Your actions have lead us to where we are today. If the situation were reversed, what would you do? What means would you use and to what lengths would you go to find your child?

I think about the choices you made then and continue to make now. So many questions unanswered about who you are, where you live, what your day consists of, if you think of Lauren, what your family is like. Who have you confided in? Who knows your truth? For a second, put your family in our place. Would it sadden you to see them struggling daily as they are subjected to the torture of not knowing what happened to you? Truly, would you wish this on your own family, your parents, your friends and loved ones?

A reporter asked me recently how my life has changed since Lauren's disappearance. Not an easy question to answer. The life I knew no longer exists. I am not living, I am only waiting. Rob, Rebecca and I will never be the same. Part of us is missing and broken, the part which was filled by Lauren.

I wonder if writing to you again, this time, will make any difference. In my heart of hearts I know it probably won't but doing nothing is not an option. At least for today, I have tried to do something, even if it is something as small as writing to you, yet again, and hoping you will finally tell us where Lauren is so we can bring her home. Tomorrow I will try again. I will read everything I have access to. I will forward any information I find or receive to the Bloomington Police Department. I will do anything I can to keep Lauren's story alive. Yes, most likely insignificant in the scheme of things, but it is something. I am not an investigator. I am not a member of law enforcement, but I am a mother who loves her children fiercely. And that, I assure you, is someone to be reckoned with. I will do anything I can to make sure you never forget Lauren.

Until we meet,
Charlene Spierer
