Celebrate Harvest Moon Weekend At Paynetown Sept. 20-21

(PAYNETOWN) - Monroe Lake's Harvest Moon Weekend, Sept. 20- 21, at Paynetown State Recreation Area, will offer activities to get visitors excited about fall.

Visitors can drop by the activity center between 1 and 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, to make a gray squirrel puppet that is clutching an acorn. An evening program called "The Nut Gatherers" will start at 8:15 p.m.

On Saturday, visitors can drop by the activity center between 1 and 5 p.m. to make an apple stamp. At the shelter outside the activity center, visitors can craft a necklace from dried seeds from 2 to 4 p.m. and make a fall leaf craft from 6 to 8 p.m. At 8:15 p.m. naturalist Jill Vance will deliver a "Legends of the Harvest" program.

A naturalist also will rove the campground on Friday evening teaching campers about using fall leaf color to identify trees. On Saturday evening a naturalist will teach the importance of squash, beans and corn.

Day visitors are welcome at all programs. Campsites are still available for the weekend and reservations can be made at camp.IN.gov.

Paynetown SRA is at 4850 South State Road 446, Bloomington. The entrance fee is $5 per in-state vehicle or $7 per out-of-state vehicle.
