Last updated on Thursday, September 5, 2013

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford boy suffered minor injuries after the bike he was riding was hit by a car Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 53-year-old Brenda Bahe was traveling east on Sunny Acres Drive and was topping a hill at the intersection of Sunny Acres Drive and Tinton Avenue when she saw 8-year-old Deshawn Owings on his bike in her lane of traffic.

According to police Bahe applied her brakes and swerved to avoid the child. Police say she was almost stopped when the corner of her 1005 Ford Taurus hit the bike.

Owings suffered scraps and abrasions to his lower leg and knee. His mother Amanda Harper was called to the scene along with an IU Health Hospital ambulance and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department first responders.

Owings was treated at the scene, but did not go to the hospital.
