(SOUTH CAROLINA) - Former Bedford resident Lori Pruett was killed after being involuntarily drawn into a domestic dispute on April 12, 2012 while going to work near her new home in South Carolina.
Earlier this week, the woman responsible for her death, 30-year-old Georgia Gurley Woodberry halted her trial and pled guilty to murder, two counts of attempted murder, stalking and associated charges.
Circuit Judge D. Craig Brown sentenced Woodberry to 40 years in prison. Under South Carolina law, Woodberry will not be eligible for parole and must serve each day of her sentence.
Pruett, who had recently moved from Lawrence County to South Carolina, was on her way to work about 7 a.m. when her Camaro crossed paths with a gray Chevrolet Impala that was pursued by a white Honda Accord driven by Woodberry. Woodberry was chasing and firing shots at Carolyn Gray and Jimmy Askins, her former lover.
The Impala crashed into the Camaro, killing Pruett.
Woodberry begged for leniency, explaining abuse from her former boyfriend had contributed to the irresponsible behavior. Danny Pruett, Lori's husband, asked Judge Brown to levy a life sentence.
