(WASHINGTON) - A Vincennes man was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday for dealing meth in Washington.
43-year-old James E. Choate II, will serve 11 years in the state Department of Corrections following his sentencing in Daviess Superior Court. The remaining four years of the sentence was suspended and Choate will be on probation when he is released from prison.
The Washington Times Herald reports, Choate pled guilty to conspiracy to commit dealing in meth, a Class B felony, in July as part of a plea agreement. He was facingh two felony counts of dealing meth and a misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement.
He was arrested Feb. 5 after U.S. Marshals, along with Daviess County Sheriff's deputies and Washington police tried to serve a warrant on Choate at 17 Coronado Drive.
According to the probable cause affidavit, after smelling possible meth ingredients, the deputy marshals knocked on the door and then three people scrambled about the house and tried to block the front door. The deputy marshals then breached the door while officers secured the perimeter of the house.
Officers found Angela Stapleton, and she was detained.
Officers then had to tase Choate and also found 26-year-old Adam L. Conger.
The affidavit then read Choate then tried to fight with officers before being taken to the Daviess County Security Center.
Conger was charged with two Class B felony counts of dealing in meth and is scheduled to stand trial on Nov. 19.
Stapleton was charged with one count of dealing in meth and proceedings have not been scheduled after a continuance was granted in July.
