Tip From Concerned Citizen Lands Three In Jail On Felony Charges

Last updated on Thursday, August 8, 2013

(PAOLI) - Three Paoli residents were arrested Tuesday on drug and theft charges after a concerned citizen contacted police.

Arrested were: 43-year-old Franklin Banks and Casey Smith, both of Paoli, on charges of possession of meth, theft, and criminal trespass. Banks was also charged with possession of precursors.

47-year-old Lisa Livingston, of Paoli, was charged with possession of more than 3 grams of meth manufacturing meth, possession of cocaine and possession of precursors.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department reports the call leading to the arrest came from a resident who had encountered the two men loading items into a pickup truck on property about three miles northwest of Paoli. The caller provided a description of the men as well as a license plate number. Using that information, Orange County deputies located the truck at a residence on State Road 37 about two and a half miles south of Paoli where officers arrested Banks.

Indiana Conservation Department officers and Paoli Police Department officers then joined the investigation and Paoli officers arrested Smith.

The investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant at 2797 South State Road 37. Police then arrested Livingston.

"This is another example of how citizens of the county can have an impact on the thefts that are going on in this area," Orange County Sheriff Richard Dixon said. "Numerous stolen items were recovered during this investigation. These items are from several different thefts and those thefts have now been solved due to one citizen getting involved.

"Orange County and surrounding counties have experienced a large number of thefts in recent weeks and we are solving many of those cases through the assistance of residents who see suspicious activity and are willing to get involved."

A news release reported the three who were arrested are being held in jail pending arraignment. Bond for Banks and Smith was set at $2,005 cash. No bond was set for Livingston.
