Last updated on Tuesday, August 6, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Solsberry man killed himself after he visited the Bloomington Veterans Affairs Clinic Monday afternoon.

Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer says 65-year-old David Todd, died of a gunshot wound to the head.

According to Bloomington Lt. Steve Kellans, police were called to the Veterans Affairs Clinic in the 400 block of South Landmark Ave. at 4:15 pm.

Staff told police that Todd had a handgun and was waving it around and pointied it at himself after telling a nurse she was "wrong."

Staff called 911 and told Todd to leave the building.

Todd first went to his gray Ford F150 pickup truck which was parked in the parking lot of the clinic. He then drove away before police arrived.

Officers spotted Todd's truck in the area of West Third Street and South Landmark Avenue and followed it to the 200 block of South Yancy Lane.

There Todd pulled his truck into a yard. But before police could talk to Todd they heard the shot and realized Todd had shot himself.

South Yancy Lane was closed to traffic for about an hour while detectives investigated at the scene.
