(BEDFORD) - SOAR! Executive Director, Adele Bowden-Purlee announced the organization has received a $5,000 contribution from AT&T to assist with the purchase of technology and supplies to enhance their efforts to increase literacy rates in Lawrence County.

"This project aligns perfectly with our state initiatives to address the "skill's gap" existing in our economy," said. State Representative Eric Koch. "The partnership of SOAR! and AT&T is once again at the forefront of addressing this critical need. We appreciate their investment in the future of our community and our future leaders."

The contribution will enable program tutors to utilize iPads and applications to enable student access to Scholastic Newsreaders' Storia program. Storia eBooks offer learning activities to build comprehension and reading retention at every reading level by enabling students to simply touch or highlight words for which Storia software is then able to offer definitions using words, pictures and optional read-to-me narration.

"By promoting adult education, we are building stronger communities," said Jim Tackett, external affairs director for AT&T Indiana. "Thanks to the leadership of Representative Koch and the folks at SOAR!, adults in Lawrence County are fortunate to have opportunities to learn new skills that enable them to be successful personally and professionally."

The contribution will also fund the purchase of Pre-GED Scoreboost Software and training materials. SOAR! is a not-for-profit organization funded by tax deductible contributions from individuals, businesses and organizations. SOAR!'s mission is to provide adults in LawrenceCounty with the literacy skills needed to reach their full potential as individuals, parents, workers and citizens.
