(SALEM) - A Salem employee has been suspended for 97 days without pay for breach of conduct issues with the city.
The Leader Democrat reports the decision was made during last week's Salem Board of Works and Public Safety.
Salem Mayor David Bower, who is a member of the board of works, made the motion to suspend Todd Hunt.
Bower says Hunt works at the city's water treatment plant and had violated the city's code for personnel. He declined to provide specific details, citing uncertainty over what was public record.
The board of works met in executive session prior to their regular meeting.
According to the agenda, the session was held to discuss IC 5-14-1.5-6 (b)(6)(A), with respect to any individual over whom the governing body has jurisdiction: to receive information concerning the individual's alleged misconduct.
That is within the scope of the Open Door Law, but any action taken by the board - a vote - has to be done in public session.
