Last updated on Wednesday, August 21, 2013

(MARTINSVILLE) - A Martinsville man was killed Tuesday while crossing Ind. 37.

Morgan County Coroner Annette Rohlman says 28-year-old Nicholas Guffey was attempting to cross the highway near Grand Valley Boulevard when he was struck by a northbound utility vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Martin Reynolds of Trafalgar, was not injured.

A Lifeline helicopter was called to the scene and transported Guffey to Methodist Hospital where he died from his injuries. Rohlman says Guffey died of blunt force trauma.

IND. 37 was closed from State Road 252 to Industrial Drive for some time while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
