(LOOGOOTEE) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources plans to improve fishing at West Boggs Lake in Loogootee.

The DNR says the lake has been invaded by gizzard shad, which competes with bluegill and bass for food.

So next year, the DNR plans to lower the lake level, salvage adult bass and channel catfish, and eradicate the rest with a fish toxicant.

The lake will then be restocked with desirable species.

There will be a free open house later this month to provide information on the lake renovation. You'll be able to ask questions and comment on the planned action.

The open house will be at the West Boggs Park Activity Center on August 21st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
