LIFE Giving Away Book Bags And Supplies

Last updated on Thursday, August 1, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence InterFaith Endeavor will be distributing book bags and school supplies to qualifying families as part of its Pencil Project.

The project is geared to ease the financial strain of sending children back to school.

This year, LIFE will give away backpacks and supplies to 400 students in Lawrence County.

Laura Bailey, LIFE director of operations, says LIFE is taking applications from families who need school supplies, and is accepting donations of backpacks and supplies from those in the community.

Items needed include new or gently used backpacks, loose leaf paper, folders, pens and pencils, scissors and binders. Bailey says they have enough crayons and glue sticks.

Children in grades K-5 will receive a backpack filled with supplies. Students in grades 6-12 will receive supplies, but no backpack.

Applications and donations can be dropped off at the Mitchell or Bedford LIFE offices. The Mitchell office is located at 903 West Main Street and is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the Bedford office at 1204 I St., is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Bailey says when parents turn in the application, they will be given a time to return and pick up the backpack or supplies.
