(BLOOMINGTON) - A pretrial conference is set for Thursday in the civil lawsuit filed against three men last seen with missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer.
Spierer's parents Rob and Charlene Spierer filed the suit against Corey Rossman, Jay Rosenbaum and Michael Beth in late May. The Spierers accuse the three defendants of negligence in connection with their daughter's disappearance, saying the men supplied her with alcohol, got her intoxicated and then failed to take care of her. The actions, her parents said, led to their daughter's death.
Both sides are expected to make their arguments today in front of federal judge Tim A. Baker.
Spierer disappeared in Bloomington in the early morning hours of June 3, 2011. She hasn't been seen since. The lawsuit is an attempt by the Spierer family to force the defendants to provide information about the events of that night.
According to a motion filed earlier this month, the Spierers want the case to proceed to the discovery phase, which would allow their attorney to ask the defendants questions while under oath. They're asking the judge to allow the suit to proceed.
Lawyers for the defendants argue that the Spierers can't prove their daughter was injured or killed and have asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed.
