(JASONVILLE) - A man accused of giving a liquor store cashier a wink instead of cash for a "shooter" was arrested Tuesday.

The Greene County Daily World reports, 42-year-old William Leon Sherman, of Jasonville, was arrested on a warrant charging him with theft, a Class D felony.

According to police the incident was reported on May 18 when a female cashier at the Jasonville Package Store say Sherman entered the store bought a six-pack off Schlitz and while at the register, he tried to get more alcohol without paying for it.

The cashier said after the sale was completed, Sherman picked up a small bottle of alcohol, called a "shooter," that was close to the register, put the bottle in with his six-pack and started walking out.

Police say the cashier yelled at Sherman to stop but he just winked at her, smiled, and went on out the door.

Police found Sherman and talked to him. He told police he didn't recall taking the "shooter" and would have paid for it if he remembered taking it.

The owner of the store told police he could provide surveillance video but when the officer received a flash drive with the recorded video, police were unable to open it.

Then on Aug. 18, Jasonville police received a CD of the surveillance video. The video showed Sherman standing at the counter and putting the bottle in his container of alcohol and leaving.

The Greene County Prosecutor's Office filed the case against Sherman on Friday, Aug. 23.
