(LEESVILLE) - 20-year-old Cody Silvers, of Norman, has been charged in the hit-and-run wreck Friday in Leesville that left a 16-year-old Medora girl dead and 15-year-old Noah Brown hospitalized at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says Silvers is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury.
" Mr. Silvers was taken to the Lawernce County Security Center at 5:58 p.m. and posted a $2,000 bond and was released," Sheriff Craig says. "Just because there was an arrest doesn't mean the investigation is over. We are still questioning people and gathering information."
Kassi Lewis-Yoskovich, a Medora High School sophomore, sustained fatal head injuries at the scene of the wreck on George Johnson Road in Leesville.
Medora High School Principal Brad McCammon says Noah Brown had his second surgery on his legs Monday night, and it lasted around five hours. Brown is a freshman at Medora High School.
According to Sheriff Craig, the accident happened in a 90-degree curve on George Johnson Road, which is south of Leesville near the Jackson County line at 6:30 p.m.
Lawrence County Officer Tyler Trueblood was dispatched to the scene. When he arrived, first responders from Guthrie and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Departments were administering first aid to the victims.
Lewis-Yoskovich, of Medora, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Rob Herr.
According to a preliminary police report, Brown was seriously injured but was able to tell police what happened.
Brown, who was driving a 2004 Vento moped, told police he was traveling south on George Johnson Road and coming around the turn when Cody Silvers pickup truck hit them. Silvers then continued traveling northbound following the collision.
Air Evac transported Brown to Riley's Children Hospital in Indianapolis.
Following treatment of the victims, Sheriff Craig called in an Indiana State Police accident reconstructionist to assist with the investigation.
