Couple Arrested After Small Children Found Wandering In Parking Lot

(WASHINGTON) - Two small children wandering alone in an uptown Washington Parking lot led to the arrest of a Washington couple on neglect and drug charges Monday evening.

Around 8:20 p.m. the Washington Police Department received a call reporting two small children, with no adults were wondering around in the parking lot of Auto Care Services at the corner of State Road 57 and VanTrees Street.

One child was approximately 3 years-old, the other either 4 or 5-years old. Police discovered the children belonged to Marty and Valerie Hughes.

Both were arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent.

Valerie Hughes was also with maintaining a common nuisance.Marty Hughes is also facing charges of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.

The children were placed in the care of their grandparents.
