City Employees To Have Primary Care Access With Local Hospitals

Last updated on Tuesday, August 20, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The City of Bedford accepted a letter of intent to enter into a primary care arrangement with Indiana University Health Southern Indiana Physicians and St. Vincent Medical Group at the Board of Works meeting on Monday.

Miles Parker of the Parker Group presented the proposal to offer no cost primary care services to City of Bedford employees in designated blocks of time, with a focus on preferred access, chronic disease management and wellness.

It was nearly a year ago that Mayor Girgis suggested Parker Group focus their efforts on a cooperative agreement with local healthcare organizations, recognizing that strong local healthcare providers are a vital part of a successful community.

Parker Group was pleased with the response they received from IU Health Southern Indiana Physicians and St. Vincent Medical Group, stating that both organizations showed a strong commitment to the program from the beginning.

City employees will have access to primary care services at both facilities.

A steering committee designed to monitor and guide the program has been formed and the city will elect a delegate to serve on the committee and help provide oversight and continually improve the program.

Educational meetings for employees will be held in September and the program is expected to be fully operational by November 1, 2013.
