Last updated on Wednesday, August 21, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - Director of Basketball Operations Calbert Cheaney will leave IU for an assistant coaching job at Saint Louis University.

IU Coach Tom Crean confirmed Cheaney's leaving and his desire to return to the floor coaching.

Cheaney joined the IU staff in June 2011. He played at IU from 1990-1993, and left as the Big Ten's all-time leading scorer, a title he still holds today. In his senior year, he won the Big Ten Player of the Year and National College Player of the Year, collecting the Wooden and Naismith awards.

During his two years on staff at IU, the Hoosiers went 56-17 and made two Sweet 16 appearances.

Cheaney will join head coach Jim Crews, who played on IU's undefeated 1976 national champion team and later served as an assistant under Bob Knight, at St. Louis.
