(SALEM) - Brooklyn Thompson, an 11-year-old from Salem, is one step closer to her goal of performing at the Grand Ole Opry after winning her division at the Indiana State Fair.
She competed against a dozen others in the Junior Instrumental Solo division for ages 12 and under at the Youth Talent Contest.
Her three minute performance on her fiddle earned her a blue ribbon, $100 and an engraved plaque.
At the conclusion of the contest, she was surprised by her great aunt and uncle, Kathy and Gordon Simler, with the gift of a banjo that she can add to her collection of instruments which include a fiddle, keyboard and pink guitar.
