(BLOOMFIELD) - 30-year-old Jason Haywood, of Bloomfield, is accused of injuring a woman by dragging her around on gravel then leaving with a small child in his vehicle and fleeing from officers at a high rate of speed with the child not buckled in a safety seat on June 24.
The Greene County Daily World reports, Haywood eluded officers until he was arrested on July 9 when a warrant was issued to revoke his suspended sentence from a prior case.
Then on July 25, new criminal charges were filed against him when he was in Greene Circuit Court this week.
Haywood was charged with invasion of privacy involving a violation of a no-contact order as a condition of probation, invasion of privacy involving a violation of a protective order with a prior, resisting law enforcement with use of a vehicle, criminal recklessness with use of a vehicle, domestic battery and domestic battery with a prior.
There was a protective order against Haywood when he allegedly injured the woman.
According to Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Leon Dunigan, police were called to a home in Bloomfield where they found a woman with blood on the side of her head and on her neck and arms, lacerations on her left temple, and abrasions on a shoulder, thigh, knee and wrist. An ambulance was called. The woman, who was taken to Bloomington Hospital, suffered a concussion and facial bone trauma and numerous lacerations and a head injury.
Haywood is accused of punching her in the head, pulling her down to the ground and dragging her around on a gravel drive, then leaving with a small child in his vehicle.
Deputy Dunigan drove to Haywood's residence on E. Mineral-Koleen Rd. and found Haywood, and the unrestrained child, in a van in the driveway. He parked at the end of the driveway between two fences and said he told Haywood to put the van in park and shut the engine off at least 12 times but Haywood instead drove toward the officer's vehicle then drove between it and a fence, narrowly missing the patrol car.
Haywood then took off with the officer following but Haywood did not stop despite the officer's emergency lights. Haywood allegedly turned down a gravel road, then another, and another, going approximately 50 mph. The officer lost the van because it was going too fast and he knew the child was not restrained.
Other individuals reported seeing the van traveling at a high rate of speed and another person reported the van passed him on a double yellow line in a construction area.
In a probable cause affidavit prepared by Deputy Dunigan, he listed Haywood's criminal history:
* Arrested for domestic battery on May 20, 27, June 29, Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 in 2011, and on Oct. 28 in 2012
* Convicted of domestic battery on May 27, June 29 and Nov. 6 in 2011
* Convicted of domestic batery with a previous conviction for domestic battery on Jan. 25 in 2012
* Convicted of invasion of privacy on Nov. 6 in 2011, Jan 25 and Oct. 28 in 2012, and Jan. 15 in 2013.
Haywood's bond in the latest case was set at $15,000 surety or $1,500 cash, but on the petition to revoke the suspended sentence filed in a previous domestic battery case, his bond was set at $10,000 cash only.
He remains in custody in the Greene County Jail.
