Bedford Woman Injured After Vehicle Hits Utility Pole And Flips

Last updated on Tuesday, August 6, 2013

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman was injured after she crashed into a utility pole and flipped her vehicle on Lincoln Avenue near KnuckleHeads Monday afternoon.

According to a Bedford Police report, when officers arrived on the scene the vehicle was on its side and 38-year-old Catherine Sego was standing up through the front passenger's side window but was unable to get out of the vehicle.

Bedford Fire Department firefighters helped Sego get out of the vehicle and then administrated first aid until an IU Health Hospital ambulance arrived.

Sego suffered minor bleeding to her arm and elbow. Sego refused to go to the hospital for treatment.

Sego told police that she was driving south on Lincoln Avenue when an animal ran across the roadway in front of her. Sego told police she swerved to miss the animal and that is when she hit the utility pole and flipped her 2011 Kia Soul.

Police say the Duke Energy pole was completely broken off at the base and was in the roadway. Police say from the marks on the pole, the vehicle hit the pole and the vehicle landed on the driver's side and rolled as it slid south on Lincoln Avenue and came to a rest on the passenger's side.

Two witnesses at the scene told police it looked like the woman was on her phone either texting or attempting to call someone when the accident happened. However, Sego told police she was not on her phone at all during the time of the accident.
