(FRENCH LICK) - A 16-year-old West Baden boy lost his life after a crashed on County Road 175 South about two miles east of French Lick Tuesday night.
According to Orange County Public Information Officer Bill Fullington, Brandon Albright and 19-year-old Barry Cole, both of West Baden were back seat passengers in 2008 Jeep driven 21-year-old Levi Glass, of French Lick.
According to police Albright and Cole were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the Jeep.
Officers from Orange County Sheriff's Department and French Lick Police performed CPR on Albright, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cole suffered severe leg injuries and was flown by Air Evac helicopter to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment.
The driver, Glass, told police he crested a hill and an oncoming vehicle was on his side of the road. Glass says he swerved to miss the oncoming vehicle. The Jeep went off the south side of the road and then back across the road before landing on its side.
The vehicle that Glass say was on his side of the road did not stop and has not been identified.
"Our condolences go out to the Albright family and the others who were involved in this crash," says Orange County Sheriff Richard Dixon. "Unfortunately, unless someone comes forward, we may never know who was driving the other vehicle."
"This crash serves as a tragic reminder that everyone needs to wear their seatbelt. Crashes happen in the blink of an eye and seatbelts can prevent fatalties and reduce injuries."
Also responding to the scene were personnel from Orange County Rural District I and French Lick Fire Department and ambulances from IU Health Paoli Hospital.
