Two Monroe County Residents Arrested on Drug Charges

Last updated on Thursday, July 18, 2013

(JOHNSON COUNTY) - The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department arrested two people on drug charges during a Monday afternoon traffic stop.

Officials say just after 2 p.m., a deputy was traveling southbound on State Road 37 near County Road 900N in Johnson County when he saw a vehicle with a crack in its windshield. The deputy also stated that while there was no one in the vehicle's passenger seat, he saw someone who seemed to be hiding in the back seat.

After initiating a traffic stop, the deputy learned that the driver, 29-year-old Tyler Carpenter of Spencer, was driving with a suspended license. The deputy reported that he saw puncture holes in the arm of the passenger, 32-year-old Andrea Harden of Bloomington.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene and was alerted to a box under the driver's seat. The box allegedly contained suspected drug paraphernalia. Both Carpenter and Spencer were then arrested and taken to the Johnson County Jail. While there, a body cavity search was performed on Spencer that allegedly produced syringes, pills, balloons and other suspected drug paraphernalia.

Both suspects are awaiting their initial court appearance.
