To Bedford Boys Injured After Flames "Flashed Back"

Last updated on Friday, July 26, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Two Bedford boys were injured after they were playing with spray paint near an open flame Thursday.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig officers were contacted by the mother of one of the children who suffered burns.

"We received a call that she was taking her 13-year-old son to the hospitals because he had suffered burns on his back," Craig says.

Officers met the mother and son at the hospital.

Officers learned the children had found some spray paint cans and were around an open burn barrel and were spraying the paint when they got too close and there was a "flash back" and the children were injured.

The incident happened at a home on Greenwood Retreat Road.

"The 13-year-old suffered burns to his back and a 5-year-old had burns and was taken to the hospital and then Riley for treatment," Craig says.

Craig says the incident is under investigation.

"Children Services was notified and they also will do an investigation," Craig added.
