(BROWNSTOWN) - A Seymour man taken to the Jackson County Jail Wednesday found himself in additional trouble during the booking process.

Jail Commander Charles Murphy says that 28-year-old Andrew Smith had been arrested on a theft charge and during the booking process he was allegedly spotted taking something from his clothing and holding it in his hand.

When a jail officer ordered him to turn the item over, Smith reportedly threw a small plastic baggy on the ground.

Authorities believe the bag contained meth.

The baggie was processed as evidence and during the interview, Smith allegedly told investigators that he had recently injected a "large amount" of meth into his arm. He was then placed under medical observation.

The baggie and substance was sent to the Indiana State Police Crime Lab for testing.

Pending positive results, Smith will also be charged with possession of meth and trafficking drugs in a county jail.
