(NASHVILLE) - Waynesville homicide suspect Samuel Sallee will spend the rest of the week in the Brown County jail after accepting a plea deal to plead guilty to misdemeanor battery in a separate case in Brown County.
A Brown County judge sentenced him on Monday to six months in jail. Sallee has been jailed since soon after the May 11 shootings in the Bartholomew County community of Waynesville in which a woman and three men were killed. Police say, he is the chief suspect in the case. Sallee hasn't been charged in the shootings and one person was stabbed.He has maintained his innocence.
With credit for jail time served, he could be released Sunday.
What happens after the 55-year-old Columbus resident finishes serving the sentence is uncertain, but he could end up in the custody of federal authorities.
Sallee, a previously convicted felon, is facing federal weapons charges for his alleged possession of a rifle. Sallee faces up 10 years in prison for the federal gun charge.
The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department says Sallee is the chief suspect in the May 11 murders of four people in Waynesville. In that case, all four victims were shot. One victim was also stabbed.
