(NASHVILLE) -Samuel E. Sallee, a suspect in a quadruple homicide in Waynesville, won't go on trial as scheduled this week in an unrelated Brown County criminal case that has kept him in the Nashville jail for the past two months.

Instead, Sallee's attorney has filed a motion with Brown County Circuit Judge Judith Stewart to schedule a change-of-plea hearing in connection with an incident that sheriff's deputies say left Sallee's brother-in-law with a red nose and welts on his neck in February.

The hearing is set for August 13.

Sallee originally entered a plea of not guilty to a battery charge, but he and his lawyer have been trying to reach a plea agreement with prosecutors that could involve Sallee spending several additional months in jail before being returned to Waynesville to face the murder charges.
