Repairs To Red Brick, New Playground Equipment And Tennis Courts Planned For 2014

Last updated on Friday, July 19, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Revenue at Otis Park Golf Course is down but finances remain in good shape and several charges are in the works for 2014.

Bedford Parks Director Mike Mitchell says revenue is down about $56,000 from last year because of a wet cold spring, but things have been steady since. Mitchell added expenses are being kept down and overall they are close to breaking even.

Attendance also is lagging at John Lowery Municipal Pool with revenue down about $9,000, but rental for shelter houses is up.

Mitchell is preparing the department's 2014 budget for approval of the city council.

Mitchell will be requesting $10,000 for new sprinkler heads at Otis. They also want to seal the parking lot at Otis at a cost of $16,000. He is also proposing $40,000 out of the park budget to repair the Red Brick and another $40,000 to install new playground equipment at the soccer complex.

Mitchell has also earmarked $75,000 to begin a renovation project at Wilson Park. The plan is to turn the baseball field into softball fields and put in three new tennis courts.
