North Daviess To Register Amish Students Aug. 2

Last updated on Saturday, July 20, 2013

(ELNORA) - North Daviess schools will head into Amish country for registration this coming school year.

On Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon, school administrators will have registration at the Simon J. Graber Community Building.

Superintendent Robert Bell told the North Daviess School Board this is the first time North Daviess will have a separate registration for the Amish community.

North Daviess schools, along with Barr-Reeve, are the public schools of choice for many in the Amish community.

Mostly, Bell said, students in the community stay until the end of eighth grade, but several are staying to high school.

The Amish session will be one of several to be held in August to get ready for the upcoming school year. Registration will start on Aug. 1 from noon to 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium for returning students. For new students, registration is on Aug. 2 from 8 a.m. to noon at both the elementary and high schools.

New students are asked to bring their child's birth certificate, immunization records and proof of guardianship, if needed. Children entering kindergarten should call the elementary school at 636-8000, ext. 2000 to start the registration process.

Once again this year, online registration is also available at North Daviess, starting July 25. The first day of school starts on Aug. 13 at North Daviess.
