Last updated on Wednesday, July 24, 2013

(MONTGOMERY) - A 17-year-old Montgomery girl died Monday night when a pickup truck hit the horse drawn cart she was riding in.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. on County Road 900 East in the area of Graber Post buildings.

According to a Daviess County Sheriff's Department report the driver of the pick-up truck, 17-year-old Tristian Wagler of Montgomery, failed to see the cart. He then swerved to avoid hitting it but his truck hit the rear left corner of the horse drawn cart.

Four girls riding in the cart were ejected.

One of them, 17-year-old Amy Wagler was taken to Daviess Community Hospital and then flown to Saint Mary's in Evansville where she later died.

Police say the cart did have functional lights at the time of the crash.
